Biography
A native of Los Angeles, JENNIFER LI is a prize-winner of numerous competitions throughout Southern California. Noteworthy among these honors include: the Chinese Culture and Art Festival for Young Musicians, the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony “Young Artists,” the Friends of William Grant Still Foundation, the 13th Annual Young Musicians’ Competition, the Taiwan Benevolent Association of California, and the Kiwanis Club. As a winner of the Atwater Kent All-Star Competition, she performed David Popper’s Requiem for 3 cellos and orchestra with UCLA Philharmonia.
An avid chamber musician, Jennifer is a founding member of the Amicitia Piano Trio and Cantus String Quartet. She is passionate about drawing on new audiences and regularly gives chamber music concerts throughout the year. She has studied chamber music with Paul Coletti, Antonio Lysy, Movses Pogossian, Linda Rose, Daniel Rothmuller, Peter Stumpf, Guillaume Sutre, among others. She has also performed in master classes for Mihai Tetel, Gregor Horsch, Jeffrey Solow, Balacs Mate, William Skeen, Eric Wilson, Tigran Mansurian, the Chilingirian String Quartet, and the Alexander String Quartet. |
Jennifer has served as acting principal of the UCLA Philharmonia and the YMF Debut Orchestra. During the YMF Debut Orchestra 2011-12 Season, she was invited to travel on a national tour of China. Over a two week period, Debut performed eight concerts in six major cities, including a nationally televised New Year’s Eve Performance in Chengdu. She is also the former principal cellist of the Orchestra Da Camera at the Colburn School of Performing Arts, the Olympia Youth Philharmonic, and the Idyllwild Festival Orchestra. Jennifer has performed under the baton of renowned conductors James Conlon, Larry Livingston, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Neal Stulberg, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Alexander Treger, among others. Jennifer is an alumnus of the American Youth Symphony and YMF Debut Orchestra.
Jennifer received her Bachelors of Arts in Cello Performance from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) under the tutelage of Antonio Lysy. She has participated in the YMF Chamber Music Series, the Beverly Hills International Music Festival, the ENCORE School for Strings, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Idyllwild Arts Summer Festival, the UCLA Chancellor’s Residence Chamber Music Series, the Musica Angelica Baroque Masterclasses, and the LACMA Sunday’s Live!
